Located on an 85-acre historic estate in Whitby, Raithwaite Resort has long been a local landmark. Recognising the need for revitalisation, the team developed a major masterplan to transform the 4* resort into a leading wellness and lifestyle destination.

The £100 million redevelopment focused on enhancing Raithwaite’s offering while respecting its sensitive natural environment. Key elements included the full refurbishment of the existing Hall, spa, and pool areas, the creation of new luxury lodges and sea-view retreats, and the construction of a new restaurant in partnership with a renowned Michelin-starred chef. Sustainability was embedded throughout the proposals, aiming for a fully circular restaurant concept and a commitment to hyper-local sourcing, significantly reducing the food miles of the estate’s operations. Every aspect of the masterplan was designed to enhance the guest experience while protecting the unique coastal landscape that defines the estate.

Conceived as a long-term, phased project, Raithwaite’s transformation has already demonstrated significant success, culminating in the resort’s recent sale. The vision has re-established Raithwaite Resort as a leading UK coastal destination — combining exceptional accommodation, fine dining, wellness facilities, and a deep commitment to sustainability.
